On September 14, 2025, our Magic: The Gathering club in Bar<\/a> hosted a Draft with Ixalan<\/strong> boosters. Locals came out, and so did guests from Podgorica (Bike Tavern Rental Bike & Servicing<\/a>) and Budva\u2014it turned into a warm, lively evening. We originally planned a beginner-friendly format, but the set proved so popular that seasoned players showed up too, eager to revisit favorite archetypes and offer tips.<\/p>\n

How we drafted<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u2022 Each player received 3 boosters.
\n\u2022 Open the first pack, pick one card, and pass left; second pack passes right; third goes left again.
\n\u2022 Build a deck of at least 40 cards from your picks (typically ~23 spells and 17 lands).
\n\u2022 Basic lands were provided; in Limited you\u2019re not restricted to a single copy\u2014you can play as many of a card as you draft.
\n\u2022 We played several Swiss rounds, with time both for games and for trading impressions.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

What\u2019s special about Ixalan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ixalan is a world of Dinosaurs, Pirates, Vampires, and Merfolk\u2014a hunt for ancient artifacts and treasure-islands. Sets on this plane feature mechanics like:
\n\u2022 Explore<\/strong> \u2014 smooths draws by either finding you a land or putting a +1\/+1 counter on a creature.
\n\u2022 Treasure<\/strong> \u2014 Treasure tokens give bursts of mana and make splashes easy.
\n\u2022 Raid<\/strong> and Enrage<\/strong> \u2014 Pirates thrive on tempo and attacking, while Dinosaurs profit when they take damage.
\n\u2022 In a later return to the plane, Descend<\/strong>, Discover<\/strong>, Craft<\/strong>, and even Map<\/strong> tokens joined the party\u2014adding more synergies around the graveyard, artifacts, and digging through your deck.<\/p>\n

Archetypes we fought over<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u2022 WG Dinosaurs<\/strong> \u2014 big bodies, combat tricks, trample, and sturdy mana curves.
\n\u2022 UB Value Pirates<\/strong> \u2014 counterspells\/removal plus card draw; a game of trades.
\n\u2022 WB Vampires<\/strong> \u2014 tokens, lifelink, and smooth board development.
\n\u2022 UG Merfolk<\/strong> \u2014 +1\/+1 counters and evasion; excellent at winning on tempo.
\n\u2022 RG Ramp Dinos<\/strong> \u2014 Treasures \u2192 fast six-drops; a beginner favorite that often comes together.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Cards everyone reached for<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u2022 Carnage Tyrant<\/strong> \u2014 the six-mana, no-nonsense finisher: hexproof + trample ends games.
\n\u2022 Vraska, Relic Seeker<\/strong> \u2014 answers permanents, makes Pirates, and flips the tempo on the spot.
\n\u2022 Search for Azcanta \/\/ Azcanta, the Sunken Ruin<\/strong> \u2014 a value engine tailor-made for control tables.
\n\u2022 Legion\u2019s Landing \/\/ Adanto, the First Fort<\/strong> \u2014 tokens, lifelink, and a late-game creature factory.<\/p>\n

The vibe<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Beginners learned to read signals and not be afraid to first-pick a powerful card, while experienced players offered advice on picks and mana curves. There was plenty of laughter, gorgeous topdecks, and stories like \u201cmy dino survived removal and delivered lethal.\u201d In the end, the most deserving<\/strong> player took the win\u2014congratulations! \ud83c\udfc6<\/p>\n
