We’ve just returned from a little Balkan fairytale and can’t help but share! Several days on the outskirts of Kolašin, at Holiday Home Milica

The Starlight group stayed for several days on the outskirts of Kolašin, at Holiday Home Milica – a wooden house in a quiet valley, just 4 km from the Kolasin 1450 ski lift. The valley is surrounded by beeches and spruces, surrounded by the Bjelasica Mountains and the babbling mountain stream. The only sounds we could hear were the crackling of the wood in the fireplace and the laughter of our group.

A little about Kolašin

Kolašin is a small mountain town in northern Montenegro, at an altitude of approximately 900–1000 meters above sea level. Situated by the Tara River and surrounded by the Bjelasica, Sinjajevina, and Komovi mountains, it’s a true paradise for active recreation in both winter and summer. The capital, Podgorica, is about 70 km away, but it feels like a different world: the silence, the fresh air, and the scent of pine needles.

Ski Lifts 1450 and 1600

Our morning rituals: coffee, mountain views, and then off to Kolasin 1450. It’s just a few minutes’ drive from Holiday Home Milica. The slopes and cable cars that take you higher up Bjelasica begin here.

Slightly further away is Kolasin 1600 – together, these two centers offer approximately 45 km of groomed slopes at altitudes ranging from approximately 1420 to 2070 m. In winter, it’s an excellent ski resort with blue and red runs, and in summer, it’s the starting point for numerous hiking trails along the ridges with panoramic views.

Easy and beautiful trails nearby

We focused on accessible walks to ensure everyone could enjoy them:

  • Circle around Lake Biograd

An easy trail through Biogradska Gora National Park: just 3.5 km around the emerald lake, the trail is almost level, with boardwalks and a good trail underfoot. Perfect for a relaxing break after a long day of hiking or a family outing.

  • Hiking the Bjelasica slopes from 1450/1600

Take the lift up and explore the wide, gentle slopes and dirt roads, which in the summer become scenic trails. Just pack a windbreaker: it’s always cooler at the top than at the bottom.

  • Easy trails around Kolašin

Easy trails lead from the town along the Tara River and to the botanical garden, which boasts a collection of local mountain plants—a great option for a short walk.

Holiday Home Milica became the perfect base for us: mountains and walks during the day, and in the evenings, shared meals, home-cooked dinners, and conversations until late at night. We’re already making plans to return here in the winter to test out these slopes on skis and snowboards. 🎿

If you’re looking for a place where you can both get active and truly unwind, Kolašin and the surrounding area are definitely on your list.
