Faroe Islands thrashed Montenegro and recorded the biggest official-match win in their history.

The Faroe Islands national team (population 54,719 as of 2024) routed Montenegro (623,831 as of 2024) in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in football – 4 – 0.

Hanus Sørensen (16′, 55′) and Árni Frederiksberg (36′, 71′) each scored a brace, with Frederiksberg’s second coming from the penalty spot.
It was the Faroe Islands’ largest victory ever in official competition.
Their previous record was a 3 – 0 win over San Marino in European Championship qualifying in 1995.

With 9 points, the Faroe Islands sit third in Group L. Montenegro (6) are fourth.
