Nikšićko Pivo – The Pride of Montenegro and the Favorite Taste of Adventure

Nikšićko beer is an integral part of Montenegrin culture and our adventures.

Its history dates back to 1896 when Vuko Krivokapić, with the support of King Nikola, founded the first brewery in Nikšić.

In 1908, entrepreneurs decided to build another brewery, named Trebjesa, where the first beer was produced three years later.

However, during World War I, the brewery was destroyed, and its restoration was only completed in 1931.

After World War II, the brewery was nationalized, reconstructed, and expanded between 1946 and 1956.

Today, the Trebjesa brewery offers a diverse assortment:

  • Nikšićko Pivo: a classic pale lager with 5% alcohol content and 11.8% extract.
  • Nikšićko Gold: a premium pale lager with a smoother taste.
  • Nik Cool: a light beer with reduced alcohol content.
  • Nikšićko Tamno: a dark beer with a rich and full-bodied flavor.

Additionally, the brewery produces and distributes international brands such as Beck’s, Jelen, and Staropramen.

A special place in our travels is held by the pomegranate beer from Stari Bar.

In the historic center of this town, fresh pomegranates are widely used for juice extraction, and local cafes and restaurants offer pomegranate beer.

This beverage, produced by the Trebjesa brewery at the request of local restaurateurs, combines the light tartness of pomegranate with the refreshing lightness of beer, creating a unique tasting experience.

After our thrilling hikes and adventures, we always celebrate them with a mug of Nikšićko or pomegranate beer, enjoying the taste that has become a symbol of our journeys.

Nikšićko beer is extremely popular in Montenegro. It is not just a beverage but a part of the national heritage, loved and respected by many generations of Montenegrins.

The people of Montenegro take pride in their local beer, which can be found in every bar, restaurant, and store.

Nikšićko beer accompanies Montenegrins in all moments of life — from friendly gatherings and family celebrations to lively festivals and sporting events. It symbolizes the warmth, traditions, and hospitality of this remarkable country.
