Yesterday, we embarked on an exciting journey along a scenic route around Stari Bar, covering 17 km, overcoming an elevation gain of 940 m, and spending 6 hours on the trail. This route offered us breathtaking views, historical discoveries, and a deep connection with the natural beauty of Montenegro.
Route and Impressions
🔹 Starting Point – Stari Bar
We began our hike in the historic heart of the region – Stari Bar, one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic coast. Founded during Roman times, it later witnessed the rule of the Byzantines, Serbs, Venetians, and the Ottoman Empire. The fortress remains well-preserved, standing as a living reminder of its former grandeur. Its medieval walls, aqueduct, and the Omerbašić Mosque create a truly unique atmosphere.
🔹 Ascent to Lumetići
Leaving the town, we headed towards Lumetići Farm, located on an elevated plateau with stunning coastal views. The climb was quite steep, but our efforts were rewarded: at the top, we enjoyed panoramic views of the Bar Bay, the Rumija mountain range, and the valley below.
🔹 Through Baltina and Back to Stari Bar
Continuing along the route, we passed through the small but picturesque village of Baltina, nestled among ancient olive groves. Here, we came across old abandoned stone houses, silent witnesses of past centuries. This area once served as a strategic point for Venetian and Ottoman forces, controlling the mountain passes.
This hike gave us not only a great physical challenge but also a deep dive into history. If you love the combination of nature and historical heritage, this route is an absolute must!
