Our followers know that we are devoted fans of Dubioza Kolektiv, a band from Bosnia and Herzegovina whose creativity never ceases to inspire us. Being familiar with their work, we noticed that several of their music videos were shot right in Sarajevo—the country’s capital. This knowledge piqued our curiosity and drove us to explore further.
For the song “Autopilot,” the band made two videos. One is animated, performed in collaboration with Dino Šaran and the Deaf Band Dlan. The other version was shot on the Sarajevo cable car, Sarajevska žičara, in April 2018. This is where we had the chance to visit.
How it was created… “Autopilot” (Dubioza Collective) It’s far more interesting and acceptable, the story of the song “Autopilot,” which is my favorite on the album, also because we invited such brilliant characters as Dino Šaran from Letu Štuke and the deaf group Dlan from Zagreb. It all started when I stumbled upon a YouTube video about the deaf group Dlan. I was utterly charmed by a group of deaf and hard-of-hearing people who, of all possible options, chose music. Their story inspired us, and we immediately contacted them and went to Zagreb to visit them. We wanted to do something with them, but we didn’t know exactly what or if studio work was even possible under such conditions. Eventually, we managed to record a beat with them, which we brought back to Sarajevo. From this material, we made a song that I sent to Dino Šaran to sing something about it. Dino turned it into a completely different song, and when we put it all together, it became this version, which we included in the album. Because of such situations, we love to invite guests on as many songs as possible.
After carefully watching the video for the song “Kafana” the next morning, we began searching for places from the clip. We are experienced explorers (remember how we found the hidden bottle of Jägermeister at the White Rocks pass, our respect https://t.me/darkroom_troll), so finding one of the points was not difficult. Actually, that’s where the search ended. We concluded that in the old part of Sarajevo, there is no such kafana where they could have shot this video inside. But it was very pleasant to find the place where the first frame was shot!
More details about the video shooting can be read here. They turned pain and disappointment into a power-folk ballad. Dubioza kolektiv released a video for the single “Kafana,” announcing their new album The Bosnian music sensation, Dubioza kolektiv, released a clip for the single “Kafana,” announcing a new studio album in our language. This video is also the first horror video from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the action takes place in a typical local tavern where a hardened sugary team is ready to welcome the start of the zombie apocalypse. “The song ‘Tavern’ was created during the strictest quarantine, when, due to objective circumstances, we could not sit at the counter in our favorite restaurants. We embodied the pain and disappointment caused by this deficiency in an emotional ballad of power-folk, which sends a compelling signal about how much we missed the pub as the basic cell of human society during the pandemic. To illustrate this terrifying experience, the only adequate solution was the horror film genre, and even such a terrifying film adaptation does not come close to the real horror we felt,” said the members of the Dubioza Collective. The video was directed by Irfan Avdić, and Miroslav Lakobrija was responsible for the terrifyingly convincing zombie masks. In the main roles, in addition to the members of the Dubioza Collective, also Mario Drmać, Edis Bilić, Marko Šelić Marcelo, Almir Kurt Kugla, and Mona Muratović. This group is not only the first in terms of horror videos, as viewers can read about the band’s adventures thanks to the comic “Dubioza kolektiv and the pink cat”.
